More Storytelling Performances in 2012...
Flying Donkeys Guest Spot - March
I shall be telling at the Donkey’s monthly meet on the14th March in Derby. It will be a new performance entitled, Dame Fortune's Wheel & The Three Estates. An exploration of the three 'classes' of men and women from long ago. Those who worked, those who prayed and those who fought. The performance vividly illustrates the ups and downs of peoples lives as they rode upon Fortune’s Wheel. The stories also celebrate the use of the mystical number three, a motif commonly found in many traditional tales. The performance promises a compelling mix of humorous and revealing tales, interwoven with crafty and relevant riddles. Tale telling that brings the long past into the here and now.
‘ASTORy or Two’, Norwich Guildhall & Birmingham Storytelling Cafe
Guest Spots- May
As part of the national ‘Museums @ Night’ project aimed at encouraging greater access to museums and heritage sites, I’ll be performing my Shaming of Agnes Leaman session at Nch Guildhall on the evening of May 18th. I will also be telling it at Roisin Murray’s new ASTORy or Two club in Deal on May 25th. It’s about some of the men and women who were punished for 'ill rule' and 'evil behaviour' in Tudor and Stuart Norwich. Theirs were the petty crimes of drunkenness, theft and other misbehaviour. They were real people whose deeds are revealed from court records and the folk stories of long ago. This performance is a fusion of factual stories taken from all ‘classes’ of society with fictional tales about beggars, thieves & pedlars; Merchants, Lords & Kings. Whilst on the 16th of May I will again be telling Dame Fortune’s Wheel at the Birmingham Storytelling Cafe.
Settle Storytelling Festival & Good Impressions Guest Spot - October
I’m really looking forward to going back to Settle Festival for a second year running. Not sure what I’ll be doing yet, but the event runs from the 11th -14th of October. I’ll also be telling at Good Impressions spoken word club on October 4th telling my Dame Fortune’s Wheel & the Three Estates. It’s the new club run by Tom Philips in Hinckley.
